The Power of Madonna Presale

If you can’t wait for the music from the Madonna episode of Glee (me me me) then head on over to Amazon.com and pre-order Glee: The Music, The Power of Madonna!  The episode itself does not air until April 20th and the album will be released in conjunction with the episode but you can reserve your copy now.  The album will feature Madonna classics such as, Like a Prayer, Vogue, Like a Virgin, and others.  Originally the album was supposed to be released when the show premiered on April 13th but producers decided to move it to the following week so it would come out the same time the episode aired.

Tell me, are you going to buy the music from the Madonna episode?  My answer: HELL YES!

Gwen Stefani, Have Heart! Celebs Who've Given Birth in their 40s

In the new issue of InStyle, Gwen Stefani frets that, at age 40, she may be running out of time to have another child.  The American Academy of Reproductive Medicine would agree — by their estimate, at age 41, 29% of women are infertile. Wait! Step back from the windowsill! Fertility treatments and a positive attitude can greatly increase those odds. Just think: Salma Hayek, Nicole Kidman, Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, and Annette Benning all gave birth at age 41 (on the flip side, Celine Dion, now that same age, has been candid about her futile attempt to conceive baby #2).

Check out a few more celeb success stories:

What’s in a name? Marcia Gay Harden and Marcia Cross both gave birth to twins at age 44. Cross had two girls. Harden – who also has an older daughter – got one of each, girl Julietta and boy Hudson.

Not only did Jane Seymour give birth to twins at age 45, she wrote a book about it! Two at a Time: Having Twins: The Journey Through Pregnancy and Birth chronicles her own pregnancy, and also offers advice to other women expecting a duo.

Mariska Hargitay had son August (above with husband Peter Hermann) when she was 42. As for balancing work with family, August quickly became a regular on the Law & Order SVU set.

Madonna welcomed Rocco, her son with Guy Ritchie, when she was 41 — and then went on to adopt two children, David and Mercy, from Malawi.

Lesson? Fertility is a roll of the dice (just ask Holly Hunter and Geena Davis, who both had twins at age 47!). And adoption is always an option. Especially if you have the means and resources of a megawatt international celebrity.

Even in death, Michael Jackson Breaks New Record: Biggest Record Deal In History Signed

A new deal signed by Michael Jackson’s estate and Sony shatters Jay-Z’s $150 million record. Staggering new sum…

Even in death, Michael Jackson is breaking new records. The King of Pop’s estate has signed the biggest recording deal in history: a $200 million guaranteed contract with Sony Music Entertainment for 10 projects over seven years, according to a person familiar with the deal.

The record-breaking contract through 2017 could be worth up to $250 million if certain conditions are met. One of the albums will be of never-before-released Jackson recordings that will come out in November, the person said.

Future projects may also include a video game, a DVD compilation of videos and a rerelease of “Off the Wall,” Jackson’s fifth studio album, which first came out in 1979, accompanied by some unreleased material. Before his sudden death in June at age 50, the pop star had wanted to reissue the album, people familiar with the deal said.

Including the more than 5 million copies of that special release, Jackson has sold some 31 million albums since his death, about two-thirds of them outside the United States.

The landmark deal is worth more than all other benchmarks, such as the all-encompassing rights deals that concert promoter and ticket-seller Live Nation Entertainment Inc. had previously signed with Madonna at $120 million and Jay-Z for $150 million.

Jackson’s deal is even more remarkable because it does not include royalties from merchandise – Read full article…

NaQuila Likes Monster Red

NaQuila Likes Monster Red

With Energy drinks on the surge as many youths use it as an aphrodisiac (Intensifies sexual desires) and as we know in the music industry sex sells.  There is a big campaign between Red Bull and Monster Energy Drinks to start a huge rivalry in a limit partnership.

Red Bull and Monster Energy Drinks are siding up with many Pop artists in a huge campaign to make Red Bull and Monster in the energy drinks market what Coke and Pepsi is in the soft drinks market.  .

We are hoping to get sponsorship from Monster, because it is our choice of energy drinks.  Monster is basically the same thing as Red Bull meaning it works the same, however Monster give you double the bang for your buck.  They are both equally quality drinks and the goal is to make consumers choose between the two as they corner the market with hop Hip Hop Commercials on stations like MTV, BET, VH1 and Nationwide Radio Airplay  that caters to the consumer group targeted by this campaign.

My Beef with the Marriage Ref

“And now your marriage is in their hands…”

There couldn’t be a better summation for The Marriage Ref, NBC’s new show that premiered after the Winter Olympics. The show basically consists of couples submitting their “issues” for verdict from a celebrity panel and in front of a mass audience.

I’ve only seen part of one show to check it out and have big problems with it.

Let’s just say that the show left on me with a not-so-pretty impression. My thoughts about the show were even more solidified when looking at it through the convictions instilled in me from my youth.

What the show essentially does is make a spectacle of marriage by thrusting it in the public square, displaying a couple’s problems for mass strangers to basically ridicule.

A couple’s problems submitted before a celebrity panel only adds insult to injury…as if these celebrities know how to keep their own marriages in tact. Someone like Madonna? Or Alec Baldwin?

Please…

The stories of these celebrities (in and of themselves) are to be pitied and not laughed at.

But having them on the show’s “marriage panel” exposes the show as a faux solution to really dealing with a dynamic duo’s problems.

The Marriage Ref hijacks the sacredness of a couple working through their problems, strengthening their marriage in the privacy of their own home.

With the Marriage Ref, the institution becomes a big clown show, a circus.

Think twice before laughing at what really isn’t comedy.

My Purim Costume(s)

Purim is the only time a boy or girl can walk down the street with face paint, Mickey Mouse ears, or a pink cowboy hat and this is considered ok and even the slightest bit mandatory. This is what I love about living in Israel.

I had the privilege this year of celebrating two very different Purims in two very different cities.

Purim in Tel Aviv happened on Saturday night, February 27, though I only went out Friday night.

That didn’t stop me from hearing the noise on the streets–people yelling, screaming, celebrating, loud firecrackers going off–even when I was in the house.(Guess that’s what you get from living on Dizengoff.)

In Tel Aviv, I was a girl from the Eighties!

I may just look like Madonna on acid! Hey, it’s Purim!
I celebrated in my favorite bar with my best friends in Tel Aviv and the place was crowded with costumes–pirates, bumblebees, a caveman, Lady Gaga, flappers, and more.

Purim in Jerusalem stars on Sunday night, February 28, but I headed there for a party and Purim seudah on Monday, March 1.

For those that don’t know, Purim occurs in Jerusalem one day later then the rest of Israel because some of the cities in Persia where the story of Esther and Haman occurred celebrated one day later then others. One city, Shushan, celebrated a day later and wanted to honor Jerusalem as a holy city in their celebration (No one was living in Israel at the time.) Thus, Jerusalem has come to celebrate Purim one day later than everyone else in the country. How’s that for special?

I celebrated Purim in Jerusalem by visiting the Western Wall and celebrating with a religious  family I know from New Jersey who lives in the neighborhood of Ramot.  Because they are quite observant, I respectfully followed their rules of modesty and made sure my outfit included a skirt and that my elbows and collarbone were covered.

I was a gypsy.  Luckily, rules of strict black and white didn’t apply here but I did make sure that my elbows, knees, and collarbone were covered.

(PS You don’t see it in this picture but I made sure to wear a white shirt under the red peasant shirt to respect those rules of modesty.)

While Tel Avivians do have their family seudah (holiday meal) on Purim and make customary gift bags (mishloach manot) for friends and family, much of the atmosphere for twentysomethings was focused on going to clubs and partying.

Quite different from the Jerusalem atmosphere where people were milling the streets but parties happened inside the home.  Surprisingly, I didn’t see too many people dressed up on the streets (in comparison to Tel Aviv) and later learned this was maybe because 1) A lot of people keep their costumes for the home and 2) much of the Haredim don’t dress up at all.

The thing that sets my outfits apart from others is–I used all of my own clothes. I bougth maybe one or two accessories for each but the basic outfits came from my own closet.  Though, I would never NEVER wear them in daily life the way I put them together here.

The white shirt with the face is from Castro. The face is a little loud so I usually top it with a cardigan.

The pink mesh tank is usually worn over something black.  I have a black mesh tank in the same color and usually I layer the two (pink underneath, black on top) for a cool effect. Tank is from H&M

Leggings are from American Apparel. They are very statement-making so I usually wear them with long black boots to throw off the bright colors.

The red peasant top is actually a tunic and I love to wear it with leggings. It’s from Alloy.

The black skirt is the most gypsy-ish I could find. I borrowed it from my roommate.

I covered the skirt with scarves in the mismatched nature of a gypsy.  The purple animal print (not very gypsy, mind you) is Inbal Gvili.  Other scarves were from Israeli stores Castro and Profil.

When in doubt, search your own closet!
